Revival of medical education has started in Somaliland for the last two decades to fill the gap in the health working force with rapid expansion of medical schools. To ensure the quality of medical graduates and the quality of health care to the Somaliland communities in the various regions of the country the republic of Somaliland through the ministries responsibilities for education and health directed a special assessment of the medical schools in the country.
A task force was set up to conduct the assessment with support of external consultants. The assessment was conducted between 27th September to 24th October based on guidelines developed with reference to WFME standards. The Somaliland medical schools were ranked using the scores from the Somaliland medical standards tool. Amoud University medical School was ranked as the first medical school followed by Hargeisa University medical School then by Edna University Medical School and Burco University Medical School at fourth position. It is another milestone for Amoud University.
This outstanding success was based upon the creativity, boldness of vision, commitment and clarity of thought of its management, teaching and administration staff with great support and relentless dedication from Amoud University Management team headed by Prof.Suleiman .A. Guuleid. The inspirational commitment, dedication of the teaching, administration staff and students has enabled Amoud University Medical School to reach this wonderful success which is a positive foundation for the good health care for the Somaliland people.
Congratulations to all those who contributed to this noble success which has restored a great measure of hope and pride among the Somaliland communities and provided much
needed confidence after years of helplessness
and desperation ‘‘ONLY ALLAH WILL reward”.
